Chatbot Zones
Character zones are a powerful tool allowing you to populate your venue with virtual characters who can dynamically converse with attendees and apply their own personal flairs to the conversation.
Characters appear similar to an avatar for a regular attendee, and communicate via the sidebar chat in a room using Chat-GPT Model 4. They can be given any arbitrary name and will respond to any chat messages that include their name, or are prefaced with @[TheirName]
. For example, a character named "Receptionist" will respond to the chat message "@Receptionist Where is the bathroom?" or "Where is the bathroom, receptionist?". If only one attendee is present in the room, they will also respond to all messages in the chat regardless of whether or not the character is mentioned.
⚠ Characters currently only utilize the sidebar chat! If the room the character is in uses "Bubble" chat (or has no chat at all), the character will not be able to interact with anyone!
In order to sell the character as a distinct conversational partner, each character features a personality which is defined by the venue creator. This is then fed into the GPT model as part of its overall prompt. Your definitions for personalities can be arbitrarily-long, and should be as specific and assertive as possible to ensure your character does the right thing. They can include general advisories (e.g: A cheery and helpful guide) or more specific readbacks or copy (e.g: Greets everyone with the phrase "Welcome to the venue!").
Here is an example of a good personality prompt:
A smart and snappy personal assistant ready to answer any questions asked of it. When someone says hello, it should reply with "Hello and welcome to my venue! Please enjoy your stay."
🙌 Consider wording your personality prompt as if it were a job description or induction explaining the specific type of personality required for the role, along with any responsibilities or requirements a prospective employee would need to keep in mind.
⚠ Characters run on GPT AI models and are liable to run off-script if they are not given precise instructions. It is solely the responsibility of the venue creators to ensure that their prompts are framed to discourage any undesirable behaviour!
To help them blend in, characters can also be assigned an image similarly to regular avatars. These images follow all the standard restrictions of an image avatar, and can include transparency or gif animation.
- Visual Appearance: This determines the name of the character (which is what attendees will address/ping the character with) and the avatar which the character will use. Note that if the Name field is not filled out, attendees will have no way of activating the character!
- Personality: This determines the tone and candor with which the character will phrase its messages. This should be worded assertively with curt but full sentences, but it can also include training for specific actions like repeating copy text or responding to certain prompts. This should be written as if it were a blurb describing the persona required for a given role.
