Getting Started With The Basics

POPUP was created to allow artists and event hosts to create serendiptious and delightful social worlds.

The designer supports all major browsers and can create worlds geared towards either desktop or mobile users effortlessly. It does not require creators or their attendees to install anything to visit or create, and multiple creators can come together to collaborate on a world simultaneously.

⚠ For the best experience we recommend creating with POPUP on the latest version of Chrome on a desktop or laptop computer. See here for alternatives and more details.

Quick Start

If you do not have an account yet, simply press "Create your own World" on the homepage. This will allow you to create a new venue from a template and attach it to your email.

Select a template, give your new venue a name, and then type in your email. After pressing "Send me a link", you will receive an email containing a unique link granting you access. After following the link, you will see your user dashboard, your new venue, and any other venues you may have been invited to already. To edit your new venue, simply click on it here.

🙌 To log in without having to use the link, go to your account settings at the bottom-left of your dashboard and set up a password for yourself. Learn how here.

Venue Basics

For a default avatar-based venue, the rooms in your venue should have at least one movement zone and one entry/exit zone serving as a spawn point for newly-arriving attendees.

For sound and visuals, you can either link from other sites (make sure you have permission!) or upload your own. To do so, click the "asset upload" button at the top of the designer window. Any assets you upload here will be available for you to select whenever you create an image, video, or audio component in your room.

To test your venue, simply press "Preview" at the top-right of the screen to see how it will look to attendees. When you're ready, you can publish your venue by clicking "Share" and setting your venue to be "Open". Now anyone can visit your venue if they have a link to it, which you can get by pressing "Copy Link".
